Slum Upgrading
Ruaraka Sabuni Slum Upgrading Programme
The Slum upgrading for the Ruaraka Development Company was undertaken at Baba Dogo area, Ruaraka, Nairobi.
The settlement has been on existence since 1985 on a 4.738 hectare piece of land. The slum upgrading for Ruaraka Sabuni was done with an aim to widen the existing roads of access in the area, to provide the basic public institutions and also to facilitate land tenure system for the same. The work was submitted to the City Council and approval of the same issued.
Korogocho Slum Upgrading Programme
The project was owned and supported by UN Habitat in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Lands and Settlement and Nairobi City Council. Korogocho is Located in the Nairobi Eastland’s and occupies an area of 1.5km2. It is divided into several villages namely; Grogan B, Grogan A, Korogocho A, Korogocho B, High ridge, Kisumu Ndogo, Nyayo and Gitathuru. The aim of Korogocho slum upgrading was to prepare an Advisory Plan for a secure regularization of land tenure and sustainable integrated development plan.
The expected outputs for the project were as follows:
- Community Mobilization strategy
- Acceptable land tenure Option
- Approved Advisory Physical Plan
- Capital Investment plan
The project has gone through all the approval processes and is due for publishing.
